33rd Annual Event Adjusts To The Protocols To Still Bring A Mecca Of Opportunity Weekend
The Annual Sacramento Black Expo has been the Mecca of unity , community and opportunity in Sacramento for 33 years. For more than three decades the event has celebrated Black History Month by opening the doors to opportunity so that everyone would have equal access to opportunities that enhance their lives in so many ways.
This year is different, but not really. Founder and CEO Dr. Rick Warren explained that Black Expo could not be held during Black History Month this time, however it will be held May 22 & 23 outdoors at Cesar Chavez Park; and will launch online beginning April 16th.
And the new additions will help the event reach even more people.
"Now for over three incredible decades the Black Expo has served the community to assure that gaps in education, housing, social justice, jobs, careers, health, and living in a clean and green environment are part of what makes Black lives matter. Black Expo will continue a tradition of bringing together those that are in need and searching for opportunities and those that can provide opportunities. This marriage has been highly successful for 32 years, and is still the main resource center for everyone to engage and extend proactive approaches to offer inclusion and build brand diversity, said Dr. Warren.
Black Expo's theme this year is "Education And Maturation." This describes the focus being placed on building new bright leaders across the board so they are prepared for the future. "The maturation of opportunities means that the economy will be shared on an equal access basis so that the ascension of a community should not lead to the descension of another. We have matured into a valued community with brilliance and sustenance. However, age old walls of despair and exclusion continue to serve as roadblocks towards partnerships and success based on talent and opportunity. Black Expo is where you step in to be part of the difference makers, added Dr. Warren.

Dr. Warren pointed out that the pandemic has created a new way of communicating and still getting the message to the community that will bring prosperity and unity.
To adjust to current protocols Black Expo is covering all "four" bases to maximize message conveyance. The Virtual Black Expo Online will be available beginning April 16 and extend for 30 additional days of viewing and participation until May 30, 2020. The Virtual Black Expo will be the most incredible version ever. There will still be workshops, interactive sessions, entertainment, a focus on health, meeting with political leaders, an Education Forum; our popular Housing Faire; The Black Women's Empowerment Summit; the Saving Our Children Summit; the Careers In Law Enforcement Day and our very meaningful Social Justice Forum. Black Expo Online brings the most and creative ways to bring your message to people on any internet capable device.
Secondly, for the first time ever the Black Expo will be televised on streaming platforms that can be seen on Roku, Amazon, Apple, Android and Sacramento cable networks. This increases the reach into the households of over 300,000 people in the region. Participating companies and vendors can now have commercials, personalized segments and extensive immediate impact directly into the community through one of the most popular methods of reaching the Black population which is television.
Thirdly, Black Expo will be in print. Black Expo will be made available to readers in The Black Expo Directory, a special publication of Today's Times Newspaper produced by Black Expo.
And finally, Black Expo has been designated as a Covid Education & Community Resource Project. This means that if the protocols available at the time are allowable, Black Expo will be held on May 22 & 23 at Cesar Chavez Park, downtown Sacramento, from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
"This will be an informational and important resource to host the event outdoors. The Expo will be outdoors with exhibitors, workshops and sessions. We will offer education on Covid 19 testing and vaccinations; and provide people with the resources they need to maintain safety and precautions as we fight against the pandemic, explained Dr. Warren.
"As you are well aware the difficulties the pandemic has brought into the lives of everyone, and the misery it has caused especially in the Black and communities of color that were already challenged by pre-existing conditions. These challenges can be met and overcome with unity and opportunity, " said Dr. Warren.
With the support of Lift Up Love Always (LULA), Today's Times Newspaper, RW Media, Highlands Community Charter Schools, Sac State, SMUD, SAFE Credit Union, The Sol Project, California Housing Finance Agency, and the Sacramento Association of Realtors, the 33rd Sacramento Black Expo will be available to everyone online; on-television; in print and hopefully in-person.
